Rosy Red Field Poppies

Poppy suncatcher

My latest project for a client in Oxford. With just under 200 pieces and being only 60cm in diameter, this was a fiddly sun catcher to make!

In memory of my father Emil…

…who loved Magnolia tress, which blossomed in May around the time of his birthday. I struggled to look after a magnolia tree as I have the wrong soil conditions in my garden, so have made a memorial sun catcher in his memory instead.

Sunshine & moon transom windowsSunshine & moon transom

My latest project: two new transom windows which were installed this week above a bathroom and bedroom in a 13th century house in Dorchester-on-Thames. The designs feature two radiant sunshines and a moon in the centre – a pattern inspired by symbolism in some of the textiles and carvings inside the nearby Dorchester Cathedral.

We’ll be visiting Alder Bridge School Advent Fayre on 5 December from 11.30am – 3pm with some unique stained glass Christmas decorations on our stall.

Christmas trees, angels, holly, flickering candles, stars and father Christmases for sale!

Due to the popularity of these decorations we’d like to do more next year, so do get in touch if you would like some made to commission, or if you would like us to come to your Christmas fair next year.

Abstract commission

One of my latest projects is an abstract transom stained glass design for a town house in central Oxford. The original brief was to use the shapes of the brickwork of the house as a source of inspiration and incorporate similar lines and patterns into the lead work.

We’re rather pleased with the result! A unique and original piece that truly complements and enhances the architectural design of the property.

Two outdoor installations complete

The glass panels featuring local scenes from the Chiltern Hills in Oxfordshire have now been installed together as part of a garden feature. The colours look very vibrant when lit up from behind (though you cannot appreciate it too much in these images) – see two posts below for details about this project.

Two new outdoor installations

Here are my latest two outdoor glass pieces (roughly 80cm x 45cm), based on local scenes from the Chiltern Hills in Oxfordshire.

Parts of the design were technically demanding to make due to the sheer number of tiny pieces that needed fitting together accurately to create a clear and detailed panorama. Unlike many other stained glass pieces, they both paint a picture/scenery rather than being based on a stylised pattern.

I used a variety of different types of glass including hand blown glass, where pigments are manually added for each pane, creating unique patterns, blotches and colour combinations.

The two pieces will both be displayed together as part of a garden feature, and will be lit up from behind to create a vibrant outdoor installation.

Pre-Raphaelite lady

This recently completed window was inspired by an 1870 Pre-Raphaelite sketch of Jane Morris. The central panel was painted and fired resulting in a permanent image, and finished off with a leaded border. Dimensions were approximately 60cm x 50cm.

I thoroughly enjoyed the painting process – the end result is very striking. It has received some very positive and complementary feedback.

Stained Glass Barn Owl

New Oxford-based stained glass studio!

I’m pleased to announce that my new stained glass studio in East Oxford is now finished! Having officially moved in a few months ago, I have been working on commissions alongside Jane, who is based in nearby Henley-on-Thames.

My latest stained glass commission made from the new studio was this large barn owl sun catcher – dimensions 45cm x 50cm.

Here I am in the process of insulating the studio last autumn.

Jane’s latest project complete

These twin windows will be placed at each side of a front door to accompany the Gaudi-inspired window made the previous year – the colours look fantastic in the sunlight.

They are now ready to be installed into a house in Henley-on-Thames.

Welcome to Jane’s new website!

This website is a celebration of over 25 years working in stained glass.

I have finally managed to gather a small selection of Jane’s work to create an online porfolio for friends, family, existing/new clients and fellow artists to browse through at leisure. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed putting the website together.

We will update the site with regular news on Scarab’s latest projects, courses and finished pieces, so watch this space!
